DOGS for ADOPTION
COMPLIMENTARY LISTING: Miss Katie is an outdoor enthusiast. Katie loves walks, running & is an excellent outdoor work environment dog. Katie also does well staying in the yard when expected to. Katie is 2 years old and has her up to date vaccinations along with worming & flea medications. Katie plays well with other dogs, mostly large breed. She sometimes doesn't warm to smaller breed dogs. Katie loves children with the exception that she has never been around children under the age of 5. Katie is in need of a home immediately and would be very loyal to her new owner with the love and daily attention she deserves. Katie is an exceptional companion. Katie is a courtesy post, please contact her caregiver at 250-876-8094 or danae0002@hotmail.com to get more info on this beauty.
FOR ADOPTION: Hammie Hambone is 120 lbs of XL dog. He is probably a shepherd cross and is around one year old. He looks intimidating but is really just a big marshmellow. Hammie spent most of his life on a chain so it's a wonder he is so well adjusted. He is living with other dogs now and enjoying the run of the place. We don't know how he is with cats. Hammie has been neutered, vaccinated and dewormed and is looking for an active family to love him. An adoption fee will be required. For more information, please contact smithersnwass@hotmail.com

COMPLIMENTARY LISTING: Cujo is a 2 year old male husky/collie/shepherd cross. He came into foster care in rough shape he was very underweight, filled with tape worms and was peeing blood due to something wrong with his prostate. He is now on his way to be a healthy young boy. He has been neutered to fix the prostate problem and is also on medication for it. Cujo had lived his whole life on a chain but despite his horrible life before he is a very happy and friendly dog. He loves going for walks and is learning how to walk nice on the leash. He is very friendly with all humans that he meets. Cujo gets along well with most dogs but sometimes does not click with the odd un-neutered male dog. Cujo does not like cats though and would be best suited for a home without any. His fur was very matted when we got him so he now has a "bad home hair cut". Cujo loves getting brushed. He travels excellent in the car and is crate trained. He has been dewormed, had his first set of vaccines and has been given revolution. Cujo is looking for a home with an active person, couple or family. If you would like more information on Cujo please contact Nicki at nicki_lee87@hotmail.com or 250-842-6482
FOR ADOPTION: Shay is an approximately 1 1/2 yr old, 45 lb. female with a lovely plush winter coat and a light summer coat. We feel she may have Sheltie or Border Collie in her mix. She is very excited to see other dogs but has good dog skills, matching her behaviour in a very appropriate manner to each dog she engages. Shay is affectionate and good with people and will bond quickly. If you hide, she will come to find you. She loves splashing in water and a tub or her water dish are equally entertaining. She has the start of a retriever with a squeaky toy but does not appear toy motivated enough to be possessive of them. She has a lovely soft mouth, seems to like children, does not seem reactive to vehicles passing by, loves to go on car rides (we've had her crated not loose), has been taken out biking on leash, and for on-leash walks with a number of other dogs. She is very excited by cats and we would recommend a no cat household would probably be best. For more information please call 250-847-3749 or e-mail smithersnwass@hotmail.com. An adoption fee will apply.
FOR ADOPTION: Marty is a very handsome, sturdy Shepherd X. He is a year and a half old and is neutered and up to date on his vaccinations.

Did you know? Male animals can mate any time they are not confined, once they become sexually mature (5-6 months). Females become pregnant during their estrus or "heat" periods. These cycles usually occur twice a year in dogs, and at least two or three times a year in cats. Many cats "come into heat" as often as once every 2 or 3 weeks during certain months. Especially in warm climates.
Even the most responsible among us cannot guarantee that our animals will not escape their confinement. Furthermore, even a leashed "potty break" could result in a male escaping, or a female attracting an unwanted male. Even if you are careful, you cannot guarantee that others will be as diligent with their pets! Confinement is a tremendous responsibility and also does nothing to eliminate health and behavioral problems such as spotting and spraying, or susceptibility to uterine infection and mammary cancer.
At present, the only sure way to keep your pet from mating is to have it surgically sterilized.
Please spay and neuter your animals. Suffering is preventable. There are not enough homes for them all.
PLEASE ENSURE THAT YOU HAVE MADE ARRANGEMENTS FOR YOUR BELOVED PETS TO BE LOOKED AFTER SHOULD YOU PREDECEASE THEM. ENSURE THAT ALL VET RECORDS ARE AVAILABLE. IF POSSIBLE, ENSURE THAT FUNDS ARE SET ASIDE FROM YOUR ESTATE IN THE EVENT THAT YOUR PET NEEDS TO BE SHIPPED TO FAMILY, FRIENDS OR A RESCUE GROUP OR BOARDED UNTIL ARRANGEMENTS CAN BE MADE. DON'T LET YOUR BELOVED PETS SUFFER EVEN MORE FROM A SIMPLE OVERSIGHT.
Remember your departed animal friend with a donation to the North West Animal Shelter Society.
TEN COMMANDMENTS OF A RESPONSIBLE PET OWNER
1. My life is likely to last 10 to 15 years. Any separation from you will be very painful.
2. Give me time to understand what you want of me.
3. Place your trust in me - it is crucial for my well being.
4. Don't be angry with me for long, and don't lock me up as punishment. You have your work, your friends, your entertainment. I HAVE ONLY YOU!
5. Talk to me. Even if I don't understand your words, I understand your voice when it's speaking to me.
6. Be aware that however you treat me, I'LL NEVER FORGET IT.
7. Before you hit me, remember that I have teeth that could easily crush the bones in your hand, but I choose not to bite you.
8. Before you scold me for being lazy or uncooperative, ask yourself if something might be bothering me. Perhaps I'm not getting the right food. I've been out in the sun too long, or my heart may be getting old and weak.
9. Take care of me when I get old. You too, will grow old.
10. Go with me on difficult journeys. Never say, "I can't bear to watch it" or, "Let it happen in my absence. "Everything is easier for ME if you are there. Remember, I love you.Things We Can Learn From A Dog...
Never pass up the opportunity to go for a joyride,
Allow the experience of fresh air and the wind in your face to be pure ecstasy.
When loved ones come home, always run to greet them.
When it's in your best interest, practice obedience.
Let others know when they've invaded your territory.
Take naps and stretch before rising.
Run, romp and play daily. Eat with gusto and enthusiasm.
Be loyal, Never pretend to be something you're not.
If what you want lies buried, dig until you find it.
When someone is having a bad day, be silent, sit close by and nuzzle them gently.
Thrive on attention and let people touch you.
Avoid biting when a simple growl will do.
On hot days, drink lots of water and lay under a shady tree.
When you're happy, dance around and wag your entire body.
No matter how often you're scolded, don't buy into the guilt thing and pout...run right back and
make friends.
Delight in the simple joy of a long walk.
